Why Reddit is one of the most underrated marketing platforms

Whenever we talk to clients about social media, the same names come up almost automatically: LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Reddit is remarkably often forgotten.
Which is interesting. Now that people search differently online, and AI systems use online conversations and communities to make sense of a question, authentic community content is becoming more valuable than ever.
Reddit is not about followers, but about interests
Reddit works fundamentally differently from most traditional social platforms. It consists of thousands of communities, called subreddits, covering just about every subject imaginable. From entrepreneurship and marketing to travel, retreats in Italy, yoga, technology, hospitality, skincare and local destinations.
People are not primarily there to follow influencers or brands. They come for answers, experiences, opinions and conversations with others who share the same interest. And that is exactly what makes Reddit interesting for marketing.
Why Reddit is becoming more important for brands
Consumers no longer automatically trust what a brand says about its own product or service. They look for experiences. They want to know what other people think of it, whether it is worth the money, which provider you would choose and what the downsides are.
Those conversations are happening on Reddit in abundance. On top of that, Reddit discussions regularly show up in search results. A genuinely useful thread can therefore stay relevant far longer than a social post that disappears from the feed after 48 hours.
And then there is AI
Online visibility is changing. We no longer search exclusively through Google. People put their questions straight to AI platforms and expect a complete answer.
That is why at Mackintosh Branding we look beyond traditional SEO to AI Search and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). Public, substantive conversations and real user experiences form a valuable part of the online information landscape. It makes platforms like Reddit strategically more interesting.
But please do not flood Reddit with advertising
This is perhaps the most important warning. Reddit users spot commercial self-promotion in seconds. A company that opens an account and then only dumps links to its own website is unlikely to achieve much.
The power lies in taking part. Listen to the questions. Share knowledge. Help someone out. Give a substantive answer without trying to sell something every time. If your expertise is genuinely valuable, authority follows by itself.
Reddit as part of your brand strategy
For many companies Reddit does not need to become a daily content channel at all. It can also be an excellent place for:
- social listening
- market research
- discovering the questions your audience actually asks
- inspiration for blogs and FAQ content
- reputation management
- thought leadership
- exploring international markets
That last one we find particularly interesting. For companies with international ambitions, Reddit offers a look at how different communities talk about a subject, a product or a market.
Leandra’s Branding Insight
Stop broadcasting only where everyone already is. Start listening where your audience is having the conversation itself.
One good conversation on Reddit may not earn you a thousand likes straight away. But if that conversation keeps being found for years by Google, by future customers and by AI systems, it can be strategically far more valuable than those thousand likes.
