YouTube Shorts: the content that can keep working for you for years

An Instagram Story disappears after 24 hours. A Reel can keep picking up reach for longer, but most social media content ultimately has a fairly short lifespan.
YouTube works differently. And that is exactly why we find YouTube Shorts interesting within a long-term content strategy.
What are YouTube Shorts?
YouTube Shorts are short vertical videos distributed within YouTube. At first glance that may look like nothing more than YouTube’s answer to TikTok and Instagram Reels. Strategically, though, there is an interesting difference.
YouTube is not only a social media platform. It also functions as an enormous search and discovery environment. People use YouTube very deliberately to learn something, solve a problem, find inspiration or get an answer. Which means good video content can hold its value far longer.
Do not make even more content, use what you already have
This is where it gets interesting for companies. You do not have to produce entirely new videos for YouTube every week.
A ten-minute interview can yield several Shorts. A podcast can be cut into short insights. A training session contains dozens of practical tips. A blog can be turned into three short videos.
At Mackintosh Branding we prefer to call that building on content rather than producing content. One strong subject becomes the starting point for several channels and formats. That is more efficient, and it makes your brand message more consistent too.
Shorts and CEO Personal Branding
For CEOs, founders and experts we see an extra opportunity. People increasingly want to know who is behind a company.
A short video in which a director shares one clear vision, tip or opinion can sometimes do far more for the brand than a perfectly designed corporate post. You build recognition. Expertise. Trust. And ultimately personal branding. Not by putting your face on camera every single day, but by consistently sharing valuable insights.
Video is becoming part of visibility
Search is changing as well. We no longer search with words alone. We discover information through video, social media and AI. Which means brands have to make their knowledge available in more than one way.
A subject that only exists as a long blog post reaches a different user than the same message in a 30-second Short. That is why we do not see video as separate from SEO or AI Search. It belongs to the same ecosystem of digital visibility and brand authority.
What can a company share in Shorts?
Do not immediately think of dances or trends. A strong business brand can work extremely well with short formats, such as:
- one branding tip in 30 seconds
- a frequently asked client question
- a striking insight from a podcast
- a look behind the scenes
- a CEO responding to a development in their field
- three mistakes you regularly come across with clients
What matters most is that someone finishes watching and thinks: that was useful.
Consistency beats going viral
Not every Short has to reach hundreds of thousands of views. In fact, for a B2B company 500 relevant viewers are often more interesting than 50,000 random ones.
The goal is not necessarily to go viral. The goal is to build a digital knowledge library in which your expertise can be discovered again and again.
Leandra’s Branding Insight
We need to let go of the idea that content is only valuable on the day we publish it. Make content that is visible today, found tomorrow and still shows what your brand knows a year from now.
That is precisely why YouTube Shorts belong in a smart content strategy.
